Breathing exercise

The purpose of this exercise is to learn “How to breathe correctly” and at the same time to observe changes within yourself.

Note 1: When you inhale; allow your tummy to expand, your chest to open and your throat to clear. This will provide the best possible path for air to flow.

Note 2: Listen to your breathing throughout the exercise. This step is particularly useful for individuals who have difficulty in obtaining control over their thoughts.

Instructions:

  • Sit or lie down in a comfortable position

  • Place your hands loosely by your sides (or on your lap when you are in a sitting position)

  • Take a slow deep breath in through your nose and count to 5 before slowly exhaling through your nose; then begin the next breath as soon as your lungs are empty. Repeat this step 5 times.

  • Once you have completed 5 breaths; take a short break then repeat the exercise a further 4 times to give you a total of 25 breaths for the complete exercise.

  • The more you practice; the easier it becomes and it will not take long before your lungs have expanded to a good position.
